The 5 Minute Journal (5MJ)

The 5 minute journal is part of a five step ritual that helps me win the day.
I’d like to share it with you.
But first, please allow me to share the other four steps of my daily
ritual.

#1) PRAY/MEDITATE – The second I wake up I pray for spiritual guidance and meditate on a day full of positive thinking, positive talking and positive actions. One thing I always say is, ”Today is going to be a great day and great things are going to happen to me.” Then I spend a few minutes loving on my dog.

#2) MAKE MY BED – The second I get out of bed, I make it. This aids in self discipline and gives me a sense of accomplishment as I conquer my first task of the day. It’s simple, that’s why I do it!

#3) EXERCISE and STRETCH – This is a quick 1-3 minute jolt to get my blood pumping and my heart beating. I do pushups, squats, grass pickers, side bends, and a few other motions. It feels really good.

#4) DRINK WATER – I pound 12 ounces of water in one tilt. Sometimes it runs
down my neck and onto my chest. For some reason, I like that. It makes me feel alive! I just rub it in.

(Now is when I leave my cell to go brush my teeth and handle my morning business. I walk down the tier to the community bathroom. Sometime I see guys smoking spice or weed in there. That’s when I bust a right, head down the stairs, and go to a different bathroom. When I get back to my cell I proceed to step #5.)

#5) WRITE IN MY 5 MINUTE JOURNAL (5MJ)
There are two parts to this, the AM and the PM.
It looks like this:

THREE THINGS I’M GREATFUL FOR
1. My beautiful wife and harmonious marriage.
2. My loving and supportive friends and family.
3. My natural abilities, form, and mental capacity.

THREE THINGS THAT WOULD MAKE TODAY GREAT
1. A visit.
2. To earn $1000 via our blogs.
3. To get some phone time.

I AM:
1. Healthy and strong.
2. Determined to succeed in life.
3. Clean and tidy.

9:23PM
THREE THINGS THAT MADE TODAY GREAT
1. I got to spend all day loving on my dog Max.
2. I ate healthy and worked out.
3. The NBA Playoffs started today.

THREE THINGS THAT COULD’VE MADE TODAY BETTER
1. Spending time with my loved ones.
2. An email from Suzie speaking my love language.
3. Chicken and donuts!

  1. I love this post, I especially love point 1 of your daily rituals. Pray and meditating is possibly the best thing of my day too maybe try choosing a scripture and meditate on that. If I may suggest one, try:

    Psalm 4:8 New International Version (NIV)
    In peace I will lie down and sleep,
    for you alone, Lord,
    make me dwell in safety.
