Okay, so I got a response from Steven…a man in prison! I’m not sure what I was expecting, but I sure was surprised that he wrote in very neat cursive. My first thought was that his writing was very feminine! Maybe he was un-educated and had someone write for him?
I was full of excitement and nerves at the same time. What possessed me to give my home address to a convicted felon?! I had all kinds of thoughts going through my mind, but then I opened and read that very first letter from Steven.
Quickly, I had a smile on my face as I read his sweet and tender words. I was comforted and amazed at our similar feelings of each other. I got my pen and paper out and wrote him this 2nd letter…
It’s me! Here’s another piece of my picture.
I was so excited to get a letter from you. I wasn’t sure how you’d respond, or if you even would. But I’m glad you did. I like to smile…and you make me smile.
Really? Chills, accelerated heartbeat, tears? First, let me just wrap my arms around you and give you a hug! I’m touched that I touched you so.
Seriously? We really have that much in common? That’s crazy! I was not expecting that at all. Surprises really are around every corner.
Hmm? So what do pen pals usually write about? We both write poems…I’ll share one with you if you share one with me. I’ve got your picture right here while I’m writing you.
I’m just gonna come right out and say it: What if I’ve been searching for my match all these years, and never found him because he wasn’t out there in society for me to find?
